Silence and stillness are both worship. Worship is response to God’s Presence. It could look like a variety of things. It’s not just songs, music or hands lifted. Worship is often misdefined and our actions follow suit.
In the Psalms, David writes “Enter His gates with thanksgiving, His courts with praise.” There is a picture and actionable “tools” presented in entering God’s space, His Presence. If God, is omni-present than how is this related to this truth?
God didn’t run from Adam and Eve. No, they ran and thought they could escape His Presence. They couldn’t. In their mind they thought they could hide but it was a lie. He was, is, everywhere – always.
Worship is often more awareness than striving-action. There is a sovereign and Divine manifestation of God’s Presence. He comes and tangibly rests essentially independent of our “doing.” There is also an intentional waiting that activates awareness.
Stillness and silence are often that waiting that brings awareness. These can activate awareness of God’s Presence, His Divine sovereignty. From this place of awareness of God, there can be an acute connection and flow of God’s Spirit. His Anointing, His Oil.
Waiting-worship, stillness and silence can be a posture that God wants to meet us. A posture to be met by Him, individually in the secret place and corporately.
“Be still and know.” Know that He is omni-potent and present.
