As John Eldridge states in the book Wild at Heart, “the false self hates mystery.” The ego, wants to be in control. The ego self protects, mounts defenses against pain, vulnerability and rejection. The ego and false self seeks perfection and control, not the Presence.
When we as Christ followers confess Jesus Christ as Lord, it’s a letting go of control. The confirmation of this act is the submission to the leading, power and authority of the Holy Spirit. It’s a willingness to submit to the Will of God. His way. His leading. His Authority. His Shepherding. “Your Will be done…”
“Holy Spirit come” and “Holy Spirit have Your way” have become catch-phrases in the church and in worship songs. They can become familiar and lifeless without a heart posture of truly desired submission and a letting go. It is a confession, proclamation and oath to God the Father that He is in charge, He is in control.
Our willingness to let go of control and loosen our grip off the steering wheel of our life, is directly linked to our receiving His Grace, Presence and Will in our life. The more we let go, the more we receive. The more we receive of Him, His power, His mercy, His healing, His freedom, His joy and peace.
